The One with the Triathlon

This summer Larissa and I decided we would try a triathlon.  We signed up for a sprint distance one close to home.  (FYI There are four distances of triathlons:  sprint, olympic, half-ironman, and ironman.)  We knew we had the running part down pat;  swimming and biking not so much.  But with a little practice and help from some knowledgeable people we were able to get our swim and bike parts down as well.

A few days before the race our grandma passed away, and the funeral was the day of the race.  We decided to measure out our own triathlon here in town to do the morning before we flew to Ohio.  So we started out in the pool and swam our 525 meters, then hopped on our bikes and rode 13.1 miles, and then jumped off and ran 3.1 miles.  Not only was it fun, but it was...surprisingly easy and our times were very good.

Now I really wanted to sign up to do a real one, but I figured I might as well move up one level to an olympic distance triathlon.  Larissa reluctantly agreed she better sit this one out since she was pregnant, but Jason said he was game to do it with me.   We found the perfect one in Mesa and kept on with our training.  All the hard work paid off.

I completed the City of Mesa Halloween Triathlon in just over 3 hours.  It was a 1 mile swim, 24 mile bike ride, and 6 mile run.  I placed 11th overall and 2nd in my age group.  My swim time was 18th, bike was 12th, and run was 6th.

Just crossed the finish line!
I really enjoy swimming, I tolerate cycling, but I LOOOVE running!

dang kim! You are one hot mama! You are so toned! holy cow! Congrats! You are so funny, I think if I had to order it, it would be running, cycling and then swimming. But I haven't trained in the pool for years.
