The One with the Staycation

Here we are on our last week of summer vacation.  Next week Talan starts kindergarten, Tatum starts preschool, and I start babysitting a boy Tobin's age.  I would say the summer went by fast, but when I look back we sure did squeeze a lot of things in.

At the beginning of summer we were planning to go on a real vacation-drive across the country to visit some family and friends.  But then gas prices went way up, and we had a list of fun things we wanted to do around here anyways.  We decided to have a staycation instead.  I'm so glad we did.

Over the past 2 months we...
  • took the boat to lake Roosevelt twice (I finally learned how to wake board!)
  • jumped off rocks at the Creek several times
Gary and Noah jumping off Flat Rock, Collin, Jason, Kim, Steve, and Bryan watching
  • spent quality time with the Hays family (Jamie and Brooke left sooner than we would have liked, but we still had a blast with Bryan and Petey)
Brooke, Tobin, Tatum, Peter, and Talan
  • went swimming at Fossil Creek with the DeSpains
  • went to the Valley a couple times to see the Cartees and swim in their pool
Moni, Rissa, Tete, Kimmie...we all have to plug our noses to jump in!
  • played co-ed softball on the funnest team ever (Go HenlingTech!)
  • went camping with Rissa and Jason and some great friends (DeSpains, Westovers, Paynes, and Leonards)
  • participated in the summer reading program at the library (which included a magic show and a juggling show)
Gotta love the drunk Indian who showed up at the Juggling Show
  • had yearly doctor and dentist check-ups for all the kids (Tatum was so brave when she had to have 3 cavities filled)
  • bought a new rental house at auction
  • completed swimming lessons
  • started in a new dinner co-op with 4 other families
  • watched Cars 2 (Tatum's first movie!)
  • rode quads in the river
  • celebrated 3 birthdays
  • ran in a half-marathon (it was a huge bust...HOT, an extra mile long, rugged terrain, etc...)
  • Crystal, LeAnn, Kim, Larissa
  • spent quality time with our most favorite person ever...Kalli
  • missed Steve while he went to a conference in San Diego for a week
  • almost accepted my dream teaching job...but turned it down at the last second
It's been a pretty hectic summer.  Our house has been a wreck and we've had no routine, but we wouldn't trade it for anything!

Now back to our mundane life...

I'm so glad you've had a good summer but DANG I wish I was on that list....it looks FUN! Why can't we live closer?!?!? Stupid Navy.
Way to go on the fillings, Tatum! Emma has ONE cavity to have filled and we are having to pay $500 to have her sedated because the noise of the drills makes her so insane......
Who knew kids would be so darn expensive?

I am glad we made the list! :) We had so much fun with you guys and I wish I could have hung out more. Peter talks about "Tatey" all the time! And I have to say you guys stay REALLY busy. I don't think you ever have a 'mundane' minute of your life!
