The One with Tobin's Birth

We are so happy to have a new baby in our family! And yes, he was born in July (barely) and his name starts with a T.
Tobin Norman was born on July 1st at 6:51 am weighing 6 pounds 12.5 ounces and was 19 inches long. We got the name Tobin from a reporter on FOX news before I was even pregnant, and Norman is my dad's middle name (Talan has Steve's and his dad's middle name). Here is his birth story:

I went to my 38 week check-up on Tuesday and found out I was dilated to a 3 and 80% effaced. Later that day I started feeling like labor could be coming soon. I had lots of lower back pain, pressure, and a crampy feeling. All day Wednseday was more of the same and I knew it wouldn't be long. I made a request for brownies to take to the hospital on facebook and Terri brought some by that night at 8:30! Steve and I started watching a movie and that's when the contractions began. Steve was not willing to wait around any longer because he did not want to deliver a baby. My mom came over to stay with the kids and we jumped in the car to go to Flagstaff.

When we got there at 10:45 pm, I was dilated to a 5 and having contractions every 5-10 minutes. I was hoping it was just false labor and they would send us home, but they told us they were definitely going to admit me and we were not leaving there without a baby. We decided to go walk around to see if the contractions would pick up, so we did that for awhile and they started coming 2 minutes apart and I dilated to a 6. When we got settled in our room around 12:30, Steve made a Jack in the Box run and I tried to get some rest. Unfortunately, the contractions really slowed down and became very sporadic. Steve slept for a couple hours and I alternated between bouncing on the birthing ball and resting in bed.

At 5:30 am the dr came in and broke my water. Finally the real labor began. It was painful, but I worked through the contractions leaning on the birthing ball on the bed. I even told Steve to take a picture of me so I could remember how much pain I was in later.I dilated from a 6 to an 8 in about an hour, and the dr said he would come back in 20 minutes to see if I was ready to start pushing. 5 minutes later I told the nurse I needed to push now. She called the dr in and they got everything set up. It took 3 good, hard pushes (and a couple of loud screams from me) and Tobin was born. He was perfect. They laid him on my chest and he hardly cried. He looked so little and had tons of black hair.

I've been dying to hear how labor went! Hope that you have an easy transition with 3 kids! I need to hear more about this birthing ball too.

Congrats!! I'm so glad everything went well. It makes me cringe thinking of labor pains...It hasn't been long enough for me to forget and I already have to do it again!
